RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has reported that 15 residents sustained injuries following a tectonic earthquake in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Meanwhile, approximately 100 households have been evacuated to safer locations.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said in a statement released on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He noted that these figures represent preliminary findings as of Thursday afternoon regarding the impact in Terong Village, East Adonara Subdistrict.

“A total of five residents suffered serious injuries, while ten others sustained minor injuries. The total affected population encompasses 100 households,” said Abdul Muhari.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously reported that the magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The epicenter was located on land, approximately 21 kilometers southeast of Larantuka, at a shallow depth of five kilometers.

Abdul Muhari confirmed that a joint emergency response team, including the East Flores BPBD rapid response unit, is on the ground to manage the situation. Current efforts include data collection, monitoring the earthquake's impact, erecting emergency shelters, and distributing aid to affected residents.

The joint team is receiving direct assistance from the BNPB to ensure that disaster management remains swift, precise, and accurate. The BNPB has urged the public to remain calm and to immediately seek open ground should further tremors occur.

The initial shock was felt strongly for two to four seconds by residents in the affected areas. According to BMKG data, as of 6:40 a.m. local time on Thursday, April 9, 2026, 48 aftershocks had been recorded, many of which were still felt by residents along the coast of Adonara Island.
