RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Administration is shifting from reactive treatment to preventive screening. This major push sets an ambitious goal for nearly half of its residents to receive free medical check-ups this year.

As reported by Antara, the local Health Sub-agency aims to engage 46 percent of the city's population. This target involves over one million people participating in the Free Health Check (CKG) program by the end of 2026.

Sahruna, the Head of the West Jakarta Health Sub-agency, confirmed the target on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. He noted that the initiative has already seen near-perfect implementation across local community health centers.

To kickstart the 2026 campaign, the government has mandated health screenings for its own workforce. "We have approached the Mayor, resulting in a Mayoral Instruction regarding CKG examinations for civil servants. This was recently carried out simultaneously across all subdistricts, and we hope the support from district and sub-district heads can mobilize the wider community," remarked Sahruna. 

Despite the administrative readiness, officials admit that the primary hurdle is a deeply ingrained cultural habit of only seeking medical help when symptoms appear. Sahruna emphasized that the program's success relies heavily on re-educating the public about the importance of early detection. 

"The obstacle is the level of public awareness. Our target is the healthy population. So far, people only come to the community health centers when they are already sick; that is our challenge," remarked Sahruna.

West Jakarta’s population is currently estimated between 2.47 million and 2.58 million people. To meet its 46 percent quota, the Health Sub-agency is expanding outreach beyond traditional clinics.

Plans are underway to coordinate with neighborhood health posts, schools, and community groups. This effort includes traditional markets to ensure the message reaches every corner of the city.

The government is bringing the CKG program into the heart of social and economic hubs. By doing so, they hope to dismantle the stigma around health screenings and foster a more health-conscious citizenry. ***
