RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is opening new opportunities for Japanese investors in the infrastructure sector. A total of 32 strategic projects were presented at the Indonesia–Japan Infrastructure and Transportation Business Forum and Business Matching held on August 27–28, 2026.
The forum, organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, served as a strategic platform to connect Indonesian project owners with Japanese investors, business operators, financing institutions, and other partners.
Deputy for Coordination of State-Owned Enterprise Management and Development at the Ministry, Ferry Irawan, said Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain strong and conducive to investment expansion.
“In the first half of 2026, Indonesia’s economy grew by 5.61 percent, inflation was kept under control at 3.34 percent year-on-year (yoy), and realized investment exceeded IDR 1,010 trillion,” Ferry said, as quoted on the Ministry’s official website on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
He added that S&P Global Ratings has maintained Indonesia’s sovereign credit rating at BBB with a stable outlook. The JETRO FY2025 survey also showed that 69.1 percent of Japanese companies operating in Indonesia expect to record operating profits.
At the forum, Indonesia presented 32 strategic investment projects from nine State-Owned and Regional-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/ROEs).
These projects span roads and toll roads, housing and township development, commercial real estate, railways and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), ports and logistics, and steel fabrication facilities.
All projects have been curated as attractive investment opportunities to accelerate national infrastructure development and strengthen collaboration with Japanese partners.
Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Maria Renata Hutagalung, highlighted that Indonesia and Japan have maintained close cooperation for nearly seven decades.
Japan remains one of Indonesia’s most consistent and trusted partners, as reflected in its support for major strategic projects such as MRT Jakarta and Patimban Port. She said the forum is expected to further strengthen cooperation in investment, capacity building, and technology transfer.
To achieve the government’s target of 8 percent economic growth by 2029, productive investments are considered essential for boosting productivity, accelerating technology transfer, and creating quality jobs. Strengthening partnerships with Japan is seen as a strategic step to support infrastructure development and investment growth.
A dedicated session, Business Forum on Strengthening Strategic Partnership between Indonesian SOEs/ROEs and Japanese Investors, featured speakers from BKPM, PT PII, JICA, and JETRO, moderated by PT SMI. The session provided a comprehensive overview of cooperation and investment opportunities, as well as strategies to enhance partnerships between Indonesia and Japan.
The forum was attended by management representatives from SOEs/ROEs including PT PII, PT SMI, PT KAI, PT Pelindo, PT Hutama Karya, PT Jasa Marga, PT Wijaya Karya, PT Waskita Toll Road, and PT MRT Jakarta. PT PP and Perumnas also showcased projects online.
More than 50 representatives from around 36 Japanese companies, potential investors, financial institutions, and other organizations--including Sumitomo Corporation, Toyota Tsusho, Mizuho Bank, Tokyu JR East, SMBC, and Penta Ocean--participated in the forum.
Their strong interest is expected to lead to further business matching, partnership exploration, and more concrete investment development between Indonesian and Japanese stakeholders. ***
