KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) ranked 469th in the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list. This achievement marks a resurgence of the national electricity company as a major player on the global stage.
Chief Executive Officer of The Investment Management Agency (BPI) Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara), Rosan Roeslani, said that this achievement reflects Indonesia's state-owned enterprises' (SOEs) global capacity to build a highly competitive and sustainable business model.
“Danantara Indonesia is committed to continuing to support this transformation agenda to create long-term value for Indonesia and our global partners,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, as quoted by antaranews.com.
PLN Director General, Darmawan Prasodjo, emphasized that this success results from the comprehensive transformation implemented by PLN over the past few years. The commitment to providing the best electricity services in remote areas remains PLN’s focus in realizing the company’s vision.
PLN is the only utility company in Southeast Asia to make it onto global lists of the largest companies by revenue. This achievement reflects a significant financial and operational performance improvement over the past decade.
In 2024, PLN recorded revenue of IDR 545.4 trillion (USD 33.24 billion), an increase of 11.9 percent from the previous year. Electricity sales rose by 6.17 percent to 306.22 terawatt-hours (TWh), exceeding the government's target of 299.99 TWh, and generated a net profit of IDR 17.76 trillion (USD 1,08 billion).
This success solidifies PLN's position as the largest utility in Southeast Asia while strengthening its reputation in the global business arena. Darmawan acknowledged the government and public support in promoting national energy resilience and self-reliance.
Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed hope that Indonesian SOEs would become more competitive and globally integrated. “This would prove that Indonesia is not merely a follower but also a pioneer in the global economy,” the President said. ***
